Hero Gold Cup: Indian women make winning start

Hosts India edged past higher-ranked Islamic Republic of Iran 1-0 to start their campaign on winning note in the Hero Gold Cup Four-Nation Women Football Tournament here at Kalinga Stadium today. Anju Tamang booted home the match-winniner in the 48th minute when she latched on to marvelous cross from Sanju.

India started the tournament as Asia Rank 12th and Iran 11th. Led by goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan, the Indian team featured one player from Odisha and she was defender Jabamani Tudu. This was the fifth successive win for Indian women team which had won two international friendlies against Hong Kong and Indonesia India during their recent foreign tour.
